Da Big Kahuna is a unique and fun Florida beach bar in Ft. Lauderdale. Massive tikis were imported from Hawaii to loom over Da Big Kahuna's bars and tables. They are what caught our eye when walking down S. Ft. Lauderdale Beach Blvd. in our never ending search for Florida beach bars. Da Big Kahuna's decor is attractive and welcoming. We sat at the bar and started chatting with the bartender. Da Big Kahuna was started by a group of people direct from Hawaii. They have great stories to tell. Several had moved from Hawaii to work in this restaurant. Steve is the owner, and his brother owns a Big Kahuna restaurant in Hawaii.
The Jungle Juice drink comes in a large shell and is made with lots of rum. It is better shared by 2 daring people. This Florida beach bar has Karaoke on Sunday, Mondays and Wednesday starting at 9:00 PM. On Tuesday, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays you will be entertained by a DJ. Friday nights at 8:00 PM, you will be treated to a hula show.
The bartender shared with us some Li hing mui which is salty dried Japanese plum.They add this to certain drinks. It can be found in Hawaii and Asia. It has a strong, distinctive flavor with a combination of sweet, sour, and salty taste.
Florida is Paradise and so is Hawaii. Together, they make a great combination. Aloha!
